Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff admitted that awarding half points after no real racing is annoying for Mercedes.
After the Belgian GP has been called off due to the heavy rain, FIA decided to award half the points, but Wolff believes this is not correct as Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton lose ground in the championship.
In Formula 1, to award the full amount of points, the drivers need to complete at least 75% of the race. In Spa, that did not happen since only a few laps were done behind the safety car. Despite that, the FIA decided to award to the top ten half the points.
“These half points are annoying, but that’s the way the regulations are.”
To conclude, Wolff said that he agrees with the FIA’s decision to not start the race. However, he believes that the laps behind the safety car were not necessary.
“It was the right choice not to start the race, but the procedure behind the Safety Car could probably have been omitted.”
