Qualifying for the MotoGP race at Silverstone took place on Saturday. Pol Espargaro took the pole position in the session.

It all started with Q1. Miguel Oliveira started with a time of 2:00.391 minutes. But this lap time did not last long, because he was immediately ousted by Alex Rins. Then came Enea Bastianini and also Johann Zarco. They pushed Rins from the top, but that did not mean much after the first outing.

Then there was a serious crash. Bastianini crashed in turn 7 and hit hard. Nevertheless, he immediately rushed to his bike, but could not continue. His crash caused yellow flags. Zarco and Rins took the second chance afterwards. Both pushed past Bastianini in the last second. Zarco marked the new best time of 1:59.288. Rins secured second place, 0.221 seconds behind.

After that, the pole position shootout started. Fabio Quartararo got serious right at the start of Q2 – he had his first lap under 1:59 this weekend.

The riders then started their final run. Pol Espargaro then jumped into first place with a time of 1:58.889. However, Jorge Martin pulverized the previous best time and moved to the top with – 1:58.008. That was a new all-time lap record for a short period of time, because his lap time got deleted after the end of qualifying as he drove over the track limits and therefore got an advantage. Pol Espargaro took the pole position for tomorrow’s race.
