Williams CEO and team principal Jost Capito said that Williams will need to score more points in the second half of the 2021 season if they want to secure P8 in the Constructor’s Championship ahead of Alfa Romeo Racing and Haas.

While the team broke its dry spell right before the summer break at the Hungarian GP, in Williams’ biggest points haul since 2017, Capito emphasized the need for Williams to finish P8, to reap the benefits of the larger prize money being awarded.

“It was a fantastic result in Hungary, to get 10 points and the first and the best result for the team since 2017,” Capito said.

“I think the eighth, ninth, and 10th teams, we wouldn’t get points for a standard, dry normal race without incidents, just a normal race, because our cars are too slow for this.”

Capito also talked about how Hungary impacted the team, stating that it was a well-needed boost in confidence for Williams. At the same time, he admitted that eighth is far from being secured and that the team needs to score more points to secure their position.

“It was really fantastic, and it was a big confidence boost and a big spirit boost for everybody in the team. To move to eighth position in the championship is absolutely fantastic,” Capito commented.

“Now everybody is full-on alert and fighting that we stay on the eighth position. I’m sure that we need some more points for this, so we have to be really focused and fight hard race by race.”
