As Sergio Perez has been announced to stay at Red Bull for the 2022 season, the Mexican driver admitted being happy about the news and he also added that the team can do well in Spa.
However, despite being happy after the first day in Belgium, it did not seem that Perez was very comfortable in his Red Bull, since he only finished FP1 in P6 and FP2 in P10, well off Max Verstappen’s pace.
“I think the car is feeling is good – I think we have good potential for the weekend,” said Perez. “It’s going to be interesting to see what happens with the weather tomorrow, but I’m looking forward to it. I think we should be able to have a good qualifying session.
“We got plenty of good information from today and we just have to pick up the best bits for tomorrow and make sure we can have a strong qualifying,” he added.
“We’ve got some good pace out there and it’s going to be interesting to see tomorrow, when everyone puts it together, where we’re at.”
The Mexican driver also said that he is happy to know his future in Formula 1 has already been decided and he can focus 100% on his performance.
“It’s good to waste zero energy on that,” said Perez, “knowing what I’m doing next year and just focus on this season.”
