United Autosports announced that from the 2022 season, the team will participate in the WEC series with two cars.

The announcement came with another news regarding the team, which is that the 2019/2020 WEC champion, Filipe Albuquerque, will stay with United Autosports for another season.

Moreover, another big announcement made by the team was that the 16-years-old Josh Pierson will join the team, and he will also race in the 2022 24 Hours of Le Mans.

About the entry of a second car in the WEC series for United Autosports spent some words, Richard Dean, the Team Principal.

“I’m thrilled to be able to confirm we are going to enter two Oreca LMP2 cars into the WEC next year, with Filipe in one car and our recently announced driver, Josh Pierson in the other.

“We want to demonstrate that we can run two competitive cars and gear up to do that well over several years in whatever category we are racing in.”

Dean also spoke about Albuquerque, saying that he helped the team to reach a lot of success.

“The joint success we have had together since Filipe joined us in 2017 has been amazing,” he explained.

“It’s crazy to think he’s been racing with us for that long, but we have had so much success together, it made sense to continue that relationship.”

The United Autosports driver said that he is extremely happy to have extended the contract with the team, which he feels is a second family to him.

“United is the team I’ve been with the longest in my career, which says a lot.

“It makes sense for us to continue together: we know each other so well, and every year it feels more and more like a family.

“I want to thank Richard and Zak for the trust they have shown in me — I can’t wait to continue into 2022 going for more wins.”

The two teammates of Filipe and Pierson are yet to be announced but Dean confirmed the team is already working on it.

“I want to sign Phil and get the deal done,” he said.

“He is now performing at a level very close to Filipe.”
