Formula 1 has announced a new award. Accordingly, the Crypto.com Overtake Award is to be introduced, which recognizes the most overtaking maneuvers by a driver in a season.
The award is supported by a cryptocurrency company Crypto.com, which is also involved in F1’s new Sprint Qualifying.
The new award is designed to “honor the courage of drivers who make bold maneuvers in pursuit of success.” It also notes that “new broadcast graphics will be introduced live during each race to signal overtaking opportunities and potential maneuvers, helping fans track the progress of drivers in the hunt for the Crypto.com Overtake Award, [and] which will record the number of overtakes throughout the campaign.”
It is now understandable that this award will not be taken by a driver from the top, but rather teams from the midfield. Currently, Sebastian Vettel is said to be in the lead after the first 11 races.
Ben Pincus, F1’s director of commercial partnerships, has had his say on the new award. “The Crypto.com Overtake Award gives us the chance to celebrate drivers’ instincts to make bold and strategic moves which reflects the qualities needed when dealing in cryptocurrency.”
Steve Kalifowitz, Crypto.com chief marketing officer, is very happy about the new possibility of being present in the F1.
“We are extremely proud to be introducing a first of its kind award to Formula 1. We strive to create partnerships that deliver win-win-win opportunities, and I can’t think of a more perfect opportunity than the Crypto.com Overtake Award.
“This award allows our values to shine through celebrating the moments where drivers exhibit the bravery required to get ahead. This season has already seen some amazing overtakes, and I can’t wait to see who this year’s champion is.”
