Mick Schumacher is delighted with the start of his Formula 1 career, though admits that he still needs to learn some things.

The reigning Formula 2 champion is now having his first season in F1 with Haas. During the first 11 race weekends, Schumacher has regularly been quicker than his teammate Nikita Mazepin, though he has had a couple of big crashes. The German himself made an evaluation of the first half of the season.

“Personally I feel like it went fairly positive,” he said. “I think that I managed to obviously steadily always improve and learn with every single Grand Prix. Obviously, the steps, at some point, become smaller just because you maximize the most things in the beginning because you learn with every Grand Prix a massive amount, and then afterward is basically fine tuning. So I definitely feel like I’m still on a very, very much steep learning curve, not only on track but also off track.”

The 2021 season is a difficult campaign for Haas as it is the only team without a single championship point scored and they already are looking to the 2022 season. Schumacher sees positive dynamics inside the team and is optimistic for the future.

“I feel that with every day of the year, I feel more and more comfortable in every circumstance. And that’s really good and it’s positive. And especially with the work that we’ve been doing with the team, it’s really heading into the right direction.”
