Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff said that he believes both George Russell and Valtteri Bottas have “attractive” options in Formula 1 outside Mercedes, should either one fail to secure a Mercedes seat for next season.

While it seems as if options for a seat for 2022 are scarce, given how most teams finalized their line-ups, Wolff insisted that options should be available for the driver who misses out on a Mercedes drive.

“George [Russell] and Valtteri [Bottas] would have probably more than one option to stay in Formula 1 and race in Formula 1 with an attractive outlook,” Wolff told GPFans.

“I think George and Valterri would have, whatever we decide, great options.”

Wolff also commented on 2022 development, stating that from what he observed, most teams started focusing on 2022 early on, paving the way for a potentially unpredictable season.

“Most teams see themselves as challenger teams, that they expect a big step to be done next year because of the cost cap that is now valid for everybody,” Wolff added.

“They’ve concentrated on next year’s development very early, you can see that Alfa, Williams haven’t brought in a huge amount of pieces anymore for a while.”
