AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly expressed his eagerness for the second half of the 2021 season and more “crazy races” with unexpected results with potentially new podium-sitters.

Gasly was one to take advantage of such races, having secured 3 podiums in such fashion, including a race win at the Italian GP last year at Monza. After a chaotic Hungarian GP, where Gasly finished sixth, the Frenchman shared his disappointment at a lack of a podium.

“So I think we had a very good day to still finish P6, we managed to get the fastest lap, but looking at the podium, it’s disappointing, because I think there was more to do if we had been a little luckier initially,” Gasly admitted.

“Unfortunately, we were unlucky, and we weren’t there to take the points, but I expect more crazy races.”

While Gasly qualified well, the opening-lap incident during the race led to many drivers losing valuable track positions, one of whom was Gasly. While Gasly escaped the carnage almost unscathed, he admitted his disappointment for not performing better.

“In the end in that situation I think [in qualifying] we almost outperformed qualifying ahead of Ferrari and McLaren, and it would have been better to be in our position and a little further back. to take advantage of this situation. But you never know when these things can happen, but it’s just a shame,” Gasly explained.

“Luckily we didn’t take any damage, compared to Max [Verstappen], Lando [Norris] or Sergio [Pérez], but the goal was to qualify in front of the midfield, to be in the best possible position for the race, and that’s what we did.”
