George Russell will hop in a Mercedes single-seater today to test 2022 tires for the team.
Russell is strongly expected to conclude a deal with the Silver Arrows in the coming weeks. The Briton already proved massive driving and leadership capabilities with Williams and seems more ready than he has ever been to join the German outfit for the 2022 season.
During the Hungarian Grand Prix, Canal+ already confirmed that the 23-year-old has sealed a deal with Mercedes, although the info is not official yet.
“Canal+ is able to tell you, even if it’s not official, that he [George Russell] will be alongside Lewis Hamilton next year, in 2022, as a starter for the Mercedes team,” Margot Laffite said.
To further fuel the fire, Russell was also asked by Mercedes to test the 2022 tire compound for them, on Tuesday, at the Hungaroring. If the Briton was then given a contract with the German team, this test will probably help him to boost his confidence working with Mercedes. Ferrari and McLaren will accompany Mercedes on track this Tuesday.
