Toto Wolff believes that Mercedes has made a right decision not to change tires on Lewis Hamilton’s car at the restart.

One of the most controversial moments of the Hungarian GP happened at the restart after the red flag. The track was drying up quickly, so all the drivers, except Lewis Hamilton, went to the pits for slicks. The Mercedes driver had another lap on intermediate tires and then had a pit stop. He rejoined the track at the rear of field, which affected his race. However, the team principal Wolff thinks that it has been a right decision.

“I think 100 percent [it was] the right decision and I stand by it,” he said.

“At the end you need to make the call out there and judge whether it’s dry enough or not and I thought that within one lap it couldn’t possibly dry up like it did. And at the end we have to take it on the chin that it was the wrong outcome but the decision was right.”

The Briton had an appointment with the team doctor regarding “fatigue and mild dizziness.” Wolff admits that there is nothing to be concerned, but an additional check is needed.

“I think you can just relate to it with the heat out there and the race like he had, with tons of overtaking, that is exhausting. I think he should be all right but better to be safe than sorry,” he added.
