Esteban Ocon has won the Hungarian Grand Prix and said that they’re “back where we belong” as the team took their first victory as Alpine.
The Hungarian Grand Prix saw a dramatic start, as Valtteri Bottas collided with the McLaren of Lando Norris and started a chain reaction, causing the retirement of multiple cars. This allowed for the midfield to battle for the lead. All but Hamilton pitted for dry tires at the re-start, meaning they had the advantage over the Mercedes for later on. This benefitted Esteban Ocon and Sebastian Vettel, who took the leading spots in the next laps.
Talking in the post-race conference, Ocon expressed his happiness for his first victory, and stated the team is “back where we belong.”
“What a moment, first victory obviously is special. We had difficult moments with the team, but we overcame it.
“Just a big thank you [to the team]… We’re back where belong and it’s fantastic.
It’s been awesome to work with Fernando… I’m really enjoying the collaboration we have together.
I wish everyone was here, but I’m sure I’ll have a wonderful Monday,” he concluded.
