George Russell has no doubts that he will find out about his future in Formula 1 this summer.
The young Williams driver has been rumored to get a Mercedes seat after his incredible performance at last year’s Sakhir GP. As the Silly Season is in its active phase, there are even more speculations on this matter. Russell himself is sure that he will know about his plans in the summer, but at the same time is concentrated on putting the best result possible for his current team.
“These things are never an easy process for any driver and any team. [That’s] regardless if they’re moving team or staying with the same team – it’s always a lengthy process,” he said.
“I’m confident there will be a decision made in the summer, but when that will be announced, who knows?
“All I’m focused on is going out and having fun this weekend and trying to score some points.”
Despite the obvious aim of becoming a world champion one day, the Briton assures that the team’s interests will always be above his own.
“I want to become a Formula 1 world champion, but I would never put my own agenda or my own goals above the team’s – no matter who my teammate is,” he commented.
“And that’s the same here at Williams now – I would never do anything to hurt my relationship with my teammate.
“I recognize that to be able to achieve your own goals, you need the team to be operating on all cylinders and that team spirit and dynamic needs to be at the top of its game – just to be able to achieve the team’s objectives.
“If the team achieves, then as a driver you’ve got a shot. But, as I said, I’d never put my own agenda or goals above the team’s.”
