Arthur Leclerc managed to take pole position in just his second flying lap on a hot day in Hungary. While no one else but Dennis Hauger was able to better their time in the final push lap.

All drivers came out at the start of the session to take pole for Sunday’s feature race. Jack Doohan was the first to set a benchmark time for the rest to beat. Frederik Vesti was following the Australian but could not beat his time on his first push lap.

Close to 10 minutes into the session, Lorenzo Colombo was the first driver to set a second timed lap and managed to better the provisional pole sitter, Doohan.

Turns 4 and especially 11 were catching drivers crossing track limits forcing their lap time to get deleted. Colombo was first on his third push lap as well but decided to quit his lap as it seemed he was losing grip in the final sector.

With 15 minutes to go, Championship leader Dennis Hauger started his second timed lap with Vesti and Doohan following.

After the second set of flying laps, Arthur Leclerc took provisional pole topping the timesheets and had Doohan 0.096s behind him. The rest of the top five comprised: David Schumacher, Clemente Novalak, and Hauger. The Red Bull Junior was only 0.231s behind Leclerc.

Victor Martins, the Alpine Junior, was seeming to struggle as he was P22 after his second push lap. Trident Racing was looking strong after the second push laps as they occupied P2, P3, and P4 provisionally.

Smolyar was the first on his final flying lap with Leclerc and Schumacher following. None of them was able to improve. Unfortunately for Doohan, his lap was interrupted by traffic. Hauger was the last on a flying lap and was the only driver on the grid who could improve his lap time, making a statement on his tire management skills.

The track temperatures seemed to be the problem today as none of the drivers, except one, were able to improve their fastest lap. Leclerc had the fastest time but has a three-place grid penalty for race 1. Hauger and Doohan finished in P2 and P3.
