Alpine, AlphaTauri, and Aston Martin are currently in a tight battle for P5 in the Constructors’ Championship. Alpine driver Esteban Ocon believes that the team’s key aspect in securing P5 is their fighting spirit.

Alpine has announced that they have shifted their focus to the development of their 2022 car. The challenge, however, is that the team must be able to stay competitive while trying to maximize their current package.

The French team has not been able to match the pace of their competitors as the opponents have secured at least one podium this season while Alpine’s best finish was a P6 in Baku.

Ocon commented on this: “AlphaTauri has been a little bit faster than we were. Aston Martin is also quite fast and giving us a hard time in most places.”

Their next best team finish came at Silverstone where both their drivers were in the top 10. Ocon has reflected on their chances in Budapest and hopes that they are competitive there. He shared that he cherishes driving at the Hungaroring.

“It’s one track that I really enjoy. There’s a lot of combinations of corners. Tires are going to be quite important to get right. And yeah, tire usage, good confidence in the car, all of this is gonna be mega important.

“So hopefully we can get the maximum out of it there as well and get some more points.”

Ocon has admitted that their competitors are quicker than them, however, he feels that Alpine’s strength is their will to fight.

“I think our strength is going to be probably our fighting spirit because we are not always the fastest of that group.

“But we are going to fight them until the end. And it’s going to be only the one that scores consistently throughout the year, little points by little points, who are going to finish in that fifth position.

“There’s still a long way to go. So we’re ready to fight.”
