Kimi Raikkonen admits that he still does not have any plans confirmed after the 2021 Formula 1 season.
As Formula 1 approaches the summer break, the Silly Season gets more active. One of the biggest rumors as of now is that Valtteri Bottas might join Alfa Romeo Racing if he leaves Mercedes. If the move is complete, one of the current drivers will have to leave the team. The veteran Raikkonen confirms that his future in the team is unclear, but that does not concern him much.
“To be honest, I don’t know yet. But it was the same this time last year. We will see. In any case, I’m not interested in extending my record. All records are broken at some point. That’s why it doesn’t mean anything to me,” he told Sport 1.
“If I decide to retire, I don’t care who takes my spot. That’s no longer my problem.”
Mick Schumacher is another possible candidate to go to Alfa Romeo. Raikkonen believes that despite the difficulties with the Haas car, the German could benefit from it.
“It’s difficult for him to shine because the car isn’t really fast. On the other hand, it’s also good for him because people know that the car isn’t good,” the Finn commented.
“If he still races strongly and shows his speed, that’s a positive. With the name, of course, he has a lot of pressure, however, the uncompetitive car gives him an easier start because expectations are low.
“It gives him more time to learn things.”
