Recent rumor has suggested Valtteri Bottas to make a move to Alfa Romeo if George Russell takes his seat at Mercedes in 2022.
Bottas has endured a fairly up and down career at Mercedes, having won nine races for the team, but also having bad seasons such as 2018 and 2021. With the talent that is George Russell waiting in the wings of Mercedes, the rumor of Bottas being booted is now stronger than ever.
Recent murmurings in the paddock have linked Bottas to Alfa Romeo, who has no confirmed driver yet. It is expected Kimi Raikkonen will retire at the end of this year, with the future of Antonio Giovanazzi yet unknown.
Adding to the suspicion was Frederic Vasseur’s recent comments about Alfa Romeo not confirming their line-up for months.
“We will see how the market is evolving. I think that as usual, the system will fulfill the places at the top,” he said. “It means that Mercedes has to take a decision and then Red Bull has to take a decision. Then, like a domino, at one stage, we will have some opportunities on the table and we’ll take a decision at this stage.”
Bottas has been on the podium six times this year, and will hope for a seventh in Hungary, to help his case more.
