It was one of the toughest weekends for Pierre Gasly and AlphaTauri, and if that was not enough, the French driver also suffered from a puncture later in the race.
Despite struggling the whole weekend, Gasly was sitting in P9, but suddenly, his team called him into the pits to change tires as his left-rear tire was suffering a puncture.
Gasly said after the race that he believes that the gravel which was on the track might have caused that issue.
“I don’t know who went through the gravel at turn seven but there was gravel on the track and I went through there and then got a rear left puncture,” he said.
Gasly was sad about what happened since the team was managing to score points even on a difficult weekend.
“Honestly, I have no words because it was such a hard weekend. We were in the points five laps to the end, and then, I don’t know, someone went off in Turn 7, and then we had a puncture, and I had to box with five laps to go because the rear left was punctured.
“Honestly, it’s so frustrating because, as I say, it was one of the most difficult weekends of the season, and we managed to make it back to the points and in the end, to lose by nothing, just for a puncture right at the end is very frustrating.”
