Guanyu Zhou keeps his Formula 2 championship hopes alive after his Feature Race win at Silverstone.
Guanyu Zhou got a great start to the race getting past the polesitter Oscar Piastri.
Lap 7 saw Dan Ticktum pitting because of uncontrollable tire degradation. He decided to put on the hards in the hopes to undercut Piastri. Lundgaard also decided to pit. However, a horrible pit stop forced him right to the back of the grid.
Ticktum’s undercut worked, allowing him to secure P10. Lungaard’s race was worsened as he received a 10-second stop-and-go penalty.
In lap 12, David Beckman also got a 5-second penalty for an unsafe pit release.
Juri Vips pitted on lap 19 dropping him down to P11 from leading the race, although, he was on much fresher tires with 10 laps to go.
Piastri moved up into P3, but he had lost a lot of time behind late-pitting Matteo Nannini and stood no chance of regaining his lead. He needed to close down a gap of 8 seconds to fight for P2 in 5 laps which would have been tough to do as he was on older tires.
Pourchaire lost P7 to Vips, who was on softer tires. Vips was on a charge and had already recovered 3 positions before picking out Pouchaire as well.
Roy Nissany also had a moment – he spun after driving over the grass.
Zhou won the Feature Race at Silverstone, staying in the championship fight. Piastri was able to hold P3. However, it was disappointing for Richard Verschoor as he had just missed out on the podium. Ticktum drove a splendid race, jumping from P4 to P2 after a great strategy call.
