Valtteri Bottas started the first Sprint Qualifying in P3, and he only managed to keep that position for the whole race without being able to attack Max Verstappen or Lewis Hamilton.
The Finnish driver wanted to go all in, and he started the race with soft tires, hoping that he could attack since the first lap. However, it was not quite like that as Verstappen jumped Lewis and Bottas could not match his rivals’ pace.
“We tried to do something different and the target was to get him at the start and the first lap. Didn’t happen, he had a good start. In turn 1 I was slightly blocked so I couldn’t use the momentum, but we tried and we managed to keep the place with the soft tire even though we got some blistering. But I mean, it’s okay.”
During the post-race interview, Bottas also admitted that Sunday’s race is not going to be easy, especially because of the tire degradation. However, he is also confident that anything can happen, and it will be important to make the most out of every situation.
“Yes, definitely, today shows tomorrow is not going to be easy. At least now we’re definitely aware, anything can happen.”
