Red Bull Racing’s Sergio Perez believes that Mercedes will bounce back strong at the British GP, which is to be held at Silverstone, a Mercedes stronghold. Lewis Hamilton alone has won seven Grands Prix at the circuit.
Perez was crucial in Red Bull’s 44 points lead over Mercedes in the Constructors’ Championship despite his struggles at the Austrian GP. Perez has admitted that he and the team are excited and ready for the new qualifying system at Silverstone.
“I’m feeling positive and pumped up for this weekend, hopefully, we can get onto the podium again,” said Perez regarding the target for the upcoming Grand Prix.
“As a team, we have put in a lot of effort to understand the new race format, a lot of preparation and practice has gone into this weekend. It will be very different for everyone, it’s definitely exciting and I hope that the hard work pays off.”
Regarding the Mercedes upgrades for Silverstone, Perez has said that he expects Mercedes to be strong but that he hopes for Red Bull to come out on top once more, for the sixth race in a row.
“I saw Mercedes talk about upgrades so I’m sure they will be very strong this weekend,” Perez admitted. “We will of course try our hardest as well and hopefully we will be able to come back up on top. Let’s see what happens!”
