Alfa Romeo will stay in F1 after the end of 2021 after a decision was made to continue with Sauber for three more years.

Alfa Romeo came on as a primary sponsor for Sauber in 2018, before taking naming rights the next year. The deal was through to this year but has now been extended three more until 2024.

Alfa Romeo team principal said he was delighted with the extension and hopes the team will begin an upwards trajectory.

“We are delighted to be announcing the extension of this partnership,” he said. “Alfa Romeo has been an incredible companion over the last few years, and we are even more excited about the chapters that are yet to come.”

“The new regulations are giving us the chance to take another step forward and I firmly believe we are perfectly placed to make big gains together. We are looking forward to the next three seasons together and to keep moving towards the front of the grid.”

The team sits eighth in the title with two points ahead of the British Grand Prix this weekend, where sprint qualifying will be trialed for the first time.
