Aston Martin’s team principal Otmar Szafnauer believes that there is more to come from Sebastian Vettel this season as the German is slowly gaining his confidence in the AMR21. Szafnauer has said that he expects a better performance at Silverstone.
Szafnauer has revealed that there are developments being made to the car for the British GP and that he believes they are the result of understanding the car’s strengths and weaknesses from previous races.
“We’re continuing to update the car to make it better and learning as we go along,” he said. “We’re getting new tires at Silverstone too so that’ll be different. We’re going to have to learn there but pretty soon I hope we get the best that we’re going to be and keep fighting for points.”
Vettel had a difficult start to his season with Aston Martin, having inconsistent results so far and failing to score points last weekend. Despite this, Szafnauer believes Vettel is improving, justified by his podium in Baku and his involvement with the team behind the scenes.
“I think he’s at 99-plus percent,” Szafnauer admitted. “There’s probably still more to come from Seb.”
“But he’s very comfortable and working well with the team. We are working hard to get more performance out of the car.”
