Frederick Vasseur has said Alfa Romeo is unlikely to announce their driver lineup until later in the season.

In recent years, Alfa Romeo has had a lineup of Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovanazzi, bringing solid yet unspectacular results for the team. They are reasonably comfortably eighth fastest, ahead of Williams and Haas, and are generally on the pace of Estaban Ocon, but well behind the other Alpine of Fernando Alonso.

Both drivers’ contracts end this season, but Vasseur will remain tight-lipped on the 2022 lineup until later on in the season.

“It is too early to talk about these issues,” he said. “We are all working together, we have many races consecutively in the last three months of competition.  We will talk about 2022 in the last part of this year, we will not do it before.”

“Being under pressure is always good, although not for long. We have to keep everyone under pressure, we don’t know what can happen to us. Maybe there are young drivers available or other drivers who are fighting at the top. We don’t want to give anything for sitting right now.”

“We know that the grid will begin to form at the top. Mercedes will make its decision, then it will be Red Bull’s turn and at some point, it will be our turn. At the moment, we do not have to decide. We have doubts right now with Kimi, but Antonio is improving.”

Alfa Romeo sits eighth in the title with two points, both Raikkonen and Giovanazzi have scored one apiece as F1 gets ready to return to action at the British Grand Prix next weekend.
