Andreas Seidl wants to see better results from his driver Daniel Ricciardo in the next races this season.
The 2021 Formula 1 season is going quite difficult for McLaren’s driver Ricciardo – he has regularly been outperformed by his teammate Lando Norris and currently sits 8th in the Drivers’ Championship with 40 points scored. The team principal Seidl understands that it has been difficult for the Australian to get used to the new environment, but admits that he wanted it to go better.
“[It’s a] huge challenge,” he told RTL. “I don’t think he imagined it would be so difficult to change teams. He’s disappointed, so are we. Because we thought it would be faster.”
At the same time, the German is sure Ricciardo will perform on a higher level as he has shown good signs.
“I am still convinced that at some point it will click with him,” he added.
“As happy as I am for the team for Lando to score the podium, [I am] as happy for Daniel today that he could pull off this race, he had a lot of pressure always. It was quite a busy one.”
“But, I think he showed a great performance and it’s great to see, scored an important seventh for us, important points for [the] Constructor’s Championship. And hopefully, that gives him now good energy going into the next two weeks preparing then for our home race at Silverstone.”
