Sebastian Vettel received a three-place grid penalty for the Austrian GP for impeding Fernando Alonso in qualifying. He said that he has been given the penalty because he was too nice, therefore, he will stop being so kind.

Sebastian was the last driver of a long queue, ready to start their last flying lap. While the German was approaching the last corner, Alonso came fast, and Vettel could not leave enough space, ruining the Spaniard’s lap.

Vettel was waiting for all the other drivers ahead of him to accelerate and start their lap. Thus, he could not pick up his pace. However, despite all the drivers ahead of him were going slow, the Aston Martin driver was the only one penalized.

“Since many drivers ended up queuing at this point on the circuit, the stewards decide that several drivers have contributed to creating this situation, so Bottas is not entirely to blame,” the FIA statement can read.

“They said I didn’t do anything wrong, so I don’t understand why they penalized me. It’s a bit weird, right,” said Vettel.

“I think I was the only kind guy, so probably from now on I’ll be less kind,” concluded the German.
