Former Formula 1 driver and Argentinian politician, Carlos Reutemann, has passed away aged 79 after health complications in the last couple of months.

Reutemann had been admitted to intensive care multiple times during the year, the last time being this week due to internal bleeding and kidney problems.

The death was announced by Cora Reutemann, Carlos’ daughter, on Twitter:

“Dad passed away in peace and with dignity after fighting like a champion with a noble and strong heart that stayed with him until the end. I’m proud and blessed for the father I had. I know he’ll be with me every day of my life until we meet again in heaven,” she said.
