Lewis Hamilton is wary of the championship fight being not as close as we expected in Baharain, especially after Max Verstappen and Red Bull outrightly dominated at both Styrian and Austrian GP.
Similar to his teammate Valterri Bottas, Hamilton also felt that the Red Bull was exceptionally strong at Red Bull Ring and hopes the upcoming races will not hold the same fate for them as the last two weekends in Austria.
“I’m praying for a different scenario in the next race. But look at their car, it’s just on rails.”
“We’re giving it absolutely everything this past two weeks, I’ve been to the factory each week trying to extract as much as I can from the car. Our car just doesn’t go well in Austria for some reason. I really hope that it does in these next ones.”
Hamilton had a strong start to the season but has not been able to shut down the pressure from Red Bull. The Milton Keynes-based team has not only won the last 5 races, but they also seem to have gotten stronger than the current world champions. The reigning world champion has his gap to Verstappen [the championship leader] at 32 points, while Toto Wolff is confident in the team’s ability to snatch the Constructors’ Championship, the Briton holds another opinion about the Drivers’ Championship.
“These past races have been difficult and obviously he’s pretty much just cruising ahead. There’s not really much I can do about that.”
“It’s a shame it’s not as close as it was at the beginning of the year, but that’s the way it is. We’ve still got a lot of races ahead of us so we just have to just keep our heads down and just keep plugging away.”
