Carlos Sainz drove a great race after a difficult qualifying. He came home in fifth and he felt happy with his performance.
At the start, Sainz struggled a bit also due to the hard tires with which he decided to start the race. He went very long with the first stint and right, in the end, he managed to overtake Daniel Ricciardo. The move also allowed him to close the gap to Sergio Perez, who received a ten-second penalty. Therefore, Sainz went from P6 to P5.
“I have had a good rhythm with the medium, and I have been able to go for Charles, Ricciardo, and Pérez. I am beginning to be the Carlos who can do this on Sundays. I did not like to suffer so much at the start, but it is already two races making the most of the car. Everything is starting to be what I expected to do.”
After a tough start, Sainz enjoyed the last stages of the race where he could be faster thanks to the new tires.
“It was a tough race. I suffered more than I expected. At the start, I had no grip, but I kept calm and lengthened my first stint. I put the mediums, and I went for everything. In the second half, I’ve had fun, in the first one, I thought we weren’t doing much, but it was worth it.”
