Today, Lando Norris had a stellar qualifying session, finishing P2 and “feels epic” after having found the speed to put his McLaren on the front row.
Last weekend at Austria, Norris put together a solid lap allowing him to start P3 and was only half a tenth behind the world champion, Lewis Hamilton. He has found his pace deficit from last weekend and put his MCL35M right beside Max Verstappen.
Norris missed out on pole by 0.048s and has shared his comments after his faultless lap: “I feel epic! Yeah, it was cool. I guess after last race, I wanted to do that one more step and I did two more so, yeah, it’s nice. It puts us in a good position for tomorrow, it was probably one of my best laps I’ve done. It was a good feeling!”
With Hamilton, Perez and Bottas starting behind Norris, he is aware the Grand Prix will be tough: “It’s cool to have them back. I know tomorrow’s race is going to be tough but we did the best job we could today, I don’t know how far I was off the pole position, I’m a bit gutted to miss out on pole. But I’m happy with P2 so..”
