Jost Capito of Williams has said he isn’t worried if it takes a while for the team to confirm their 2022 driver lineup.

Williams is in their second season of their current lineup, George Russell and Nicholas Latifi. Questions remain over who will be in Williams for next season though, as the rumor mill links Russell with a Mercedes drive next season.

Jost Capito, Williams team boss has said he isn’t bothered if the 2022 contract negotiations run late into the season, if Russell gets a late call up to Mercedes.

“I think that in the moment we as a team, we are moving on quite well and the changes seem to work pretty well that we have done,” Capito said.

“George is very happy. He focuses on driving this season, and I see more and more interest of drivers to drive for Williams in the future, as they see there is a proper financial backing.”

“They see that the team is really willing to move forward and attract the drivers as well. So I think the longer we wait, the better situation we will be.”

Daniel Ticktum and Jack Aitken would be most likely to take a seat vacated by Russell.
