Haas confirmed that Nikita Mazepin will use a new chassis after the summer break since its current one is slowing him down, as Guenther Steiner admitted.
In Styria, Mazepin was lapped twice by Max Verstappen, who won the race. The real problem is that he finished a lap down his teammate too. The performance of the last weekend showed that the Russian is struggling with the car.
Mazepin said that he is waiting for a new chassis, but he feared it could take a long time. On the other hand, Steiner confirmed that it will arrive soon, probably after the summer break.
“The chassis, they are a year old. They’ve raced for a year [because of the carryover of chassis as per the regulations]. Normally every year you make a new one. For sure the chassis never get lighter over the year.”
“A heavier car never makes you faster. I stated the obvious here. But how much? I don’t want to go to the exact amount of weight.
“For sure it does something, physics are physics you know, we will not change them, so it slows him down, but it’s not a lot.
“The chassis is planned to be with us after the summer break.”
