Fernando Alonso admitted that the second race in Austria for Alpine will be tough and that the two points scored last weekend were the maximum he could do.

Alonso also said that the Red Bull Ring does not suit the Alpine that much. Despite that, he managed to score two important points for the team, and he hopes to do so in the next race too.

“We know our strengths and weaknesses, and we try to use them on different circuits. I don’t think Austria is the best circuit for us. Unfortunately, we have two races here so we have to limit the damage here. I think we limit it well because we scored one more point than AlphaTauri.”

The Spaniard also admitted that on Sunday, during the Styrian GP, they were a bit lucky, and repeating the same result will not be an easy task.

“We managed to limit the damage, but the second race is going to be a difficult weekend. We will try to do better, but it will be difficult. I think this is our limit. I think I was maximizing everything yesterday in Q3 and today in the points. I don’t think there will be much more. We need retirements or a bit of luck, it was a very flat race, without safety cars, nothing happened, so ninth.”

For the Austrian GP, Pirelli will bring a softer compound of tires, and that will increase the degradation, which could be a problem for some teams.

“The tires for race two is a bit of a path into the unknown. We have Friday to test, but I think it’s going to be a challenge. If you start with the C5, it’s not difficult. Fast cars have the luxury of avoiding that tire, and the middle of the grid does not have that luxury. That is the bad thing about the rules. They invent a rule to improve the show, and they only benefit the greats.”

To conclude, Alonso pointed out that another rival for the race is going to be George Russell, who was right behind him for the first part of the race in Styria.

“I’m not surprised. The Williamses were already fast on Friday. I think they were 11th last year here, so it seems like they are usually fast at this circuit. I was expecting a solid race from them. Unfortunately, they had to drop out, but next weekend I hope they are quick during the week.”

I am an Italian guy. I love Motorsport because of the emotions that it gives me and I grew up watching races. That's what I love!
