Max Verstappen believes that his title rival Lewis Hamilton plays tricks with the role of underdog.
The battle for the 2021 F1 title is transferring outside the race track. The reigning champion Hamilton has supposed earlier during the Styrian GP that Red Bull Racing is significantly quicker than Mercedes. However, Red Bull’s leader Verstappen does not agree with that.
“Did Lewis say we were a lot faster in the long runs on Friday? That’s not true,” he told De Telegraaf.
“He tries to play the underdog a bit, but you see it is very close.”
“It has always been like that so far this season. You see that they have been better on Sunday than on Saturday, partly because they are good on tires. That’s something we need to work on.”
Furthermore, Red Bull’s team principal Christian Horner admits that some of Hamilton’s assumptions regarding their speed are not true.
“I think Toto should explain it to his driver because I listen with interest and sometimes some of the theories that Lewis has, are sometimes some way from reality,” he told RacingNews365.com.
