After a dominant win over Mercedes in today’s Styrian Grand Prix, Verstappen admitted the balance of the RB16B never felt as good.
Verstappen led the Styrian Grand Prix from start to finish. Nothing and especially nobody could disturb the Dutch today that was never worried by the likes of Hamilton or Bottas. As Mercedes think they were simply lacking pace today and Hamilton already mentioned needing an upgrade for next week if they wanted to have a shot at winning, Verstappen thinks Red Bull has also done a tremendous job, pointing out the outstanding balance of his single-seater.
“Straight away I felt a good balance in the car and it was good to manage the tires basically from the start. I felt like, to the end, I also had tires left,” Verstappen said.
“It was of course important to have a good start, then I think the first stint was about managing the tires and I could see that the pace was quite strong while looking after tires. It has been sometimes a bit different in previous races so I think we worked hard to make that better, and today that was very good.”
“I think as soon as we stopped to go onto the hards, that was a really enjoyable stint just to drive. Of course, we had to go through a bit of traffic with like 12 cars I think in a row, but we cleared them. I could keep my pace quite consistent to the end.”
“The car was super nice to drive, which, you know, is not always the case, but today I was really enjoying it.”
