Carlos Sainz is satisfied with his performance at the Styrian GP, stating that he has been at the same level as Sergio Perez.

Scuderia Ferrari had a strong race at Red Bull Ring on Sunday after a challenging weekend at Paul Ricard – P6 for Sainz and P7 for Leclerc after a lap 1 incident. The Spaniard was happy with how the race went.

“Very happy. Very good day in the office. We managed to have a really strong first stint on the medium, overcut pretty much the whole midfield with good pace,” Sainz told Sky Sports.

However, the no.55 car driver spoke about difficulties related to the strategy, which did not allow him to battle for the top 5.

“Then a really weird scenario, I was on fresh hards and had Lando ahead but also had Lewis ahead,” he added.

“I was doubting for 5 to 10 laps to follow him and catch Lando and then he was struggling with the tires. When I overtook him, it was too late to catch Lando. We would have had a fight at the end.”

Despite a lost opportunity to finish in the top 5, Sainz thought that Ferrari’s performance was on a very high level.

“It is a great comeback. The car today, in terms of race pace for me, was on top of the midfield and as strong as Perez. A positive for the team. It’s a shame we couldn’t take the points from McLaren.”

“Today, we didn’t have problems with tyres as we did at Paul Ricard. It’s weird, we are strong in the race and not qualifying.”
