Red Bull Racing Team Principal, Christian Horner, praised Championship leader Max Verstappen, hailing his sheer control over the race, in an absolutely dominant win over Mercedes this season, furthering extending the lead in both Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships.
Right after the race, Horner described Max’s win as a “masterclass” Grand Prix, which shows how talented the Dutch driver is.
“It was a masterclass, Max controlled the race superbly,” said Horner regarding Verstappen. He also added, saying, “When he stayed off the curbs, the system was happy with that. It wasn’t a big drama.
“Max controlled the race so well. The one-stop was the quickest strategy for him.”
Horner had described the weekend as an overall success, except for the pit stop of Sergio Perez, leaving him unable to secure a podium today. Despite this, Horner has come to the defense of Perez, clarifying that he could have held onto his track position easily, if not for the pit stop mishap.
“It was a shame that the pit stop didn’t go better for him. He could then have held on to his track position quite easily, but he fought back superbly,” said a supportive Horner.
In addition, the Team Principal praised the team’s efforts today, calling this display “encouraging”. Verstappen had finished a whopping 35 seconds ahead of second-place Lewis Hamilton, in a graceful race at the Red Bull Ring.
“This was the most dominant win against Mercedes this year. That’s very encouraging,” a very happy Horner concluded.
