Mercedes qualifying performance leaves Toto Wolff disappointed despite being able to put the cars in P2 and P3 right behind Max Verstappen.

Red Bull and Mercedes have been going at each other through the weekend and we can expect the battle to continue through the race as well.

Mercedes threw everything they had at Red Bull Racing through the qualifying session held today. Despite not starting on pole position, Mercedes was able to secure the P2 and P3. Unfortunately for Bottas, after his pitlane incident in FP2, he will be starting the race in P5. That means that Hamilton will go up to P2, giving him a chance to steal the lead from Verstappen heading into Turn 1.

While this puts the Briton in a good position to start the race tomorrow, Toto Wolff has reflected on the qualifying session saying that it was disappointing for them.

“It was a disappointing qualifying. We had more pace in it, but we weren’t able to [unlock] it in Q3. We are looking forward to tomorrow, hope for a little bit of thunderstorm than summer weather like this. Then everyone will have some fun.”
