Jutta Kleinschmidt will compete in the remaining races of the inaugural Extreme E season at ABT CUPRA XE.
ABT CUPRA XE is set to have a switch in the Extreme E series. It has been announced on Thursday morning that the 2001 Dakar Rally winner Kleinschmidt will replace Claudia Hurtgen. She will be the Mattias Ekstrom’s newest teammate.
Kleinschmidt has already replaced Hurtgen at the Ocean X-Prix in Senegal, where she impressed everyone and persuaded the team to give her the full-time opportunity.
The 58-year-old German reacted to the announcement: “I’m really looking forward to this new challenge, the preparation with the ABT team and of course to work with Mattias. At first, I followed the series from the organisers’ point of view, then I got a spontaneous drive and now, together with Mattias, I’m actually a permanent member of the family of drivers. I’m very happy for the chance to compete at the highest level again.”
The ABT CEO Thomas Biermaier also shared his thoughts: “We had a really turbulent start to our Extreme E adventure. Hopefully, calm will return in the second half of the year and we’ll start competing for trophies. My heartfelt thanks go to Claudia, who has given everything for our joint project from day one. Off of the track we remain good friends. In the cockpit, we are repositioning ourselves with Jutta. We are proud that she will be part of our team from now on.”
The next Extreme E event will be the Arctic X-Prix in Greenland on August 28th-29th.
