McLaren Team Principal Andreas Seidl has praised Lando Norris who secured points in every championship race so far. He remarked that Norris showed great maturity this year, heading into an Austria doubleheader.
Norris has scored 71 points after just seven Grands Prix in the 2021 season, a remarkable accomplishment for the 21 one-year-old. The Britton is now set to come back to Austria, where he secured his maiden F1 podium at the Red Bull Ring last year.
Approaching this special weekend for McLaren, Seidl has praised the overall improvements Norris has done this year. It is to be noted that the 21-year-old has scored the majority of McLaren’s points this season.
“I think with everything we have seen from him it just shows that again he has made a big step forward this year and also, it is simply great to see that after a qualifying lap that maybe doesn’t go to plan or a race start that doesn’t go to plan… he stays calm, he knows his opportunities are coming, he manages his tires when he has to and then he uses the potential that is there when the opportunities come up in the race,” an enthusiastic Seidl said.
“It’s really great to see how he grew into this the last two and half years but scoring in each race means the team is doing a great job in terms of reliability, in terms of pit stops, race strategy, and I’m obviously very happy with what I’m seeing there.”
In addition, Norris has also voiced his high expectations for the upcoming weekends, demonstrating his envy to pursue his current amazing point scoring streak and keep improving at each weekend.
“It’s a special place as it’s where I got my first podium in Formula 1. We had two strong back-to-back results in Austria last season, so I’m hoping we can have a similar two weekends this time out,” said a cautious Norris.
“We’ll go into these two races with our heads down and take it one step at a time to try and have two results like we managed in France.”
Norris is currently fourth in the Drivers’ Championship and will hope to further strengthen his position, as well as McLaren’s in the Constructors’ Championship. Only the Red Bull duo and Lewis Hamilton are ahead, thus paving the way to an interesting battle this season.
