Max Verstappen took the victory of the French Grand Prix as a strategy battle unfolded against the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton. Red Bull’s team principal Christian Horner says the result is payback after the Barcelona downfall.

“Really unbelievable. It’s payback for what happened earlier this year though. It’s terrible to be in the lead in the race and that you still have a long way to go. We finally made the decision and went for the two-stop,” Horner said.

“Fortunately, that paid off. It really was a phenomenal Grand Prix and also from Sergio that he made the one-stopper work. A great team performance today.

“It’s really a team effort. The people at the strategy team look at the data and make the decision. We didn’t want to put ourselves in the situation again, like in Barcelona. That’s what we did and it paid off today,” he concluded.
