Nico Rosberg believes Lewis Hamilton was too “soft” in defending the race lead from Max Verstappen in France.
Verstappen has won a brilliant tactical race against Lewis Hamilton, with a two stop strategy culminating in a penultimate lap pass for the lead at the track we are used to seeing dull processions. Rosberg was as impressed by the race as all of us, however he was miffed by Hamilton’s lack of defence for the lead.
“Unusual from Lewis, close the damn door! No?” Rosberg said on Sky F1’s post race show.
“He usually looks like the best one to one racer and I’m surprised that he didn’t try to at least try. Then brake late and try and keep on the outside, so a bit soft there from Lewis somehow.”
The French Grand Prix win is a monumental boost for Red Bull coming into a double race in Austria, where they have performed well.
