Alpine’s Fernando Alonso believes points will be a challenge as their race pace is not very good, as Alpine prepare to start their home round in France.

Alonso, who qualified ninth and made it to Q3, believes Alpine don’t have the race pace to match their qualifying position, and the team might not even score points. Teammate Esteban Ocon qualified P11, and will need to make places to get into the points paying positions.

“Big points is going to be a challenge, we have very competitive people around us,” Alonso said. “The two McLarens, the two Ferraris and Gasly, and obviously the people starting from P11 with a free choice of tyres. So we have to be realistic.”

“I think there’s going to be a few points available but in a normal race not so many.”

Alonso will hope to nab a few points for the team today, in France, willed on by patriotic fans.
