Max Verstappen took pole in today’s qualifying session by beating Hamilton at the Paul Ricard circuit by over two-tenths of a second.

After a very positive weekend so far, Verstappen revealed that Redbull managed to overturn the results shown in FP1 thanks to the work accomplished during the second practice session. Redbull was slightly on the back foot after FP1 but was able to make amends for that from practice 2 onwards.

“So far it’s been a really positive weekend for us. On a where it has normally been difficult for us [Redbull],” Verstappen said optimistically.

Verstappen also sounded eager to make up for the 25 points lost in Baku due to Pirelli’s tire failure.

“Of course, no points for us today. But it’s been a great day and of course, we have to finish it off tomorrow and get the 25 points we lost in Baku.”

As far as race pace is concerned, Verstappen is confident that Redbull will be able to retain their advantage. He said that the car felt good in free practice 2, and is looking forward to the race and the performance he can put together.
