Carlos Sainz admited that he and Ferrari are “on the right track” ahead of tomorrow’s French Grand Prix.
Ferrari started the weekend playing down their chances of a result saying they are expecting to be back down to earth after two pole positions and a podium in the last two races. There will be some hope though after a positive qualifying session for the Scuderia.
Sainz lines up in P5 after a very good lap being less than 4 tenths off Perez in P4, and only 28 thousandths ahead of Gasly in P6. Leclerc was less fortunate, sitting in P7 and a tenth behind the Spaniard after being unable to find the right pace on his final run.
“We are on the right track. Let’s see if we can get the start and the strategy right tomorrow. We have been able to show the progress we are making with the car and I am feeling more comfortable,” Sainz told DAZN about the race ahead.
When asked about the tire situation, he added: “The soft tire was working well. When you are comfortable with the car and you understand the car, that’s what it is.”
“Since Monaco I have gone very fast. Little by little the races are happening. and I’m improving, which I think is something natural.”
