Ross Chastain, Tyler Reddick, and Aric Almirola will make an appearance in the NASCAR All-Star Race at Texas.
The time came for one of the biggest nights in NASCAR – the All-Star Race night. But ahead of it, three more spots had to be given away to the triumphants of the All-Star Open event, which had been an exciting spectacle.
The race went underway and it started with drama for Chris Buescher – he had had a jump start and got a pass-through penalty. Austin Cindric also got a pass-through penalty for changing lanes at the race start. The first caution of the day came out after Bubba Wallace’s spin in turn 2.
Tyler Reddick was ahead of the pack at the restart. The contact between Buescher and Stenhouse Jr. triggered another caution. The third caution appeared on the next restart after an incident involving Erik Jones and Daniel Suarez. The day was over for both drivers.
It all went down to the 2-lap dash at the end of the opening round. Reddick seemed to have it in the bag, but Ross Chastain had a brilliant restart to win round 1 and get to the All-Star Race after starting from the rear.
Reddick was determined to make a redemption and had a strong start to round 2. Matt DiBenedetto made a big overtake on Aric Almirola for third after a hard battle. The no.21 car driver eventually overtook Cindric, but then was passed by Almirola again. The Stewart-Haas Racing driver was quite close to overtaking Reddick for the top spot, but the polesitter remained upfront to win round 2.
One final spot in the Open was available in the final round, which consisted of 10 laps. Almirola and DiBenedetto were side-by-side once again at the restart, but the no.10 car driver took the lead. In the end, he was the one to win round 3.
Chastain, Reddick, Almirola, and the fan vote winner DiBenedetto will join the field for the All-Star Race later on Sunday.
