Mercedes have confirmed they will not change their plans for 2022, despite the recent run of bad form the team has been enduring.
In 2022, the next generation of Formula 1 cars will come about. Ground effect and slightly smaller cars are among the changes, with teams spending most of this year designing their 2022 challengers.
Mercedes’ form has dropped off a cliff in recent rounds, with the team only scoring six points in the last two rounds, courtesy of Lewis Hamilton’s seventh place in Monaco. Despite this, the team has no intention to change their 2022 approach, according to Toto Wolff.
“We already readjusted the plans for 2022,” said Wolff. “And there’s no way of making out of it.”
“We will not change any decisions that we have taken, strategic decisions, just because we had two really bad race weekends. We knew that these two racetracks are probably the worst for us. And I hope I’m right with that assessment. Let’s see how the European races go now.”
“But clearly, these two were absolutely below the standards that we set ourselves and the expectations that we set ourselves.”
