Simon Roberts, Williams team principal since mid last year, will leave the team as a result of an internal restructure, the team confirmed today.
In a short statement by Williams, they confirmed the departure of Roberts, who took over the team principal position following the buyout of the team, and Claire Williams stepping down after the 2020 Italian Grand Prix.
“Williams racing team principal, Simon Roberts, will leave the team as a result of an internal restructure,” the statement read. “Simon joined Williams in June 2020 and played a key role in managing the team through its transition of ownership and leadership.”
Williams CEO Jost Capito said of Roberts departure:
“Simon has played an integral role in managing the transition over the last 12 months and I would like to thank him for his great contribution during that time.”
Roberts himself said in the same statement he was hoping for a new challenge after his Williams departure.
“It has been a pleasure to take on the role of team principal following the departure of the Williams family from the sport. However, with the transition well underway I am looking forward to a new challenge and wish everyone in the team well for the future.”
Williams have announced Capito will take on the role of team principal as FX Dimensions takes accountability for the trackside and engineering part of the team.
