Formula 1’s race director has disagreed with 2016 world champion Nico Rosberg’s claims the Baku pit entry is unsafe.

In his analysis of the Baku circuit on his YouTube channel, Rosberg highlighted the pit entry of Baku as one of the most dangerous parts of racetrack on the calendar. He won the 2016 event at Baku in his title winning year, when there were 21 rounds on the schedule.

Especially after the two dangerous accidents down the main straight at Baku, fans have been questioning if the track is safe enough, amid a heightened awareness of the danger of F1 brought on by Romain Grosjeans crash in Bahrain last year.

Michael Masi, the F1 race director, has disagreed with Rosberg’s comments about the danger of the pit entry.

“No, I disagree with that comment,” Masi said.

“The pit entry and the entire circuit has been designed, and is homologated by the FIA as a Grade 1 circuit, and fulfills all of the various safety requirements that the FIA has within its regulatory requirements. So no, I disagree.”
