Lando Norris has been handed a penalty for tomorrow’s race for his disregard of the red flags.
Norris was on track when the red flag came out after Alfa Romeo’s Antonio Giovinazzi crashed at turn 15 and ruined the front of his car. The Brit was ahead of the pit entry and should have gone in. He also slowed down briefly, but then picked up speed again and passed by the pits.
The stewards then demanded an explanation from Norris after qualifying due to an alleged violation of Article 31.6 of the Sporting Regulations:
“Norris did not enter the pit lane after a red flag and crossed the control line after a red flag at 16:19.” a statement from the FIA read.
Thanks to the rile break, Norris now has a 3-place penalty and will start the race from ninth.
